《The Civilizational Code in Clay: The Past and Present of Jingde Ceramics Studio》

Forge Time with a Millennium of Kiln Fires, Inherit Civilization through Tea Ware

I. Origins: The Millennium-old Echo in Kiln Fires

In 1004 AD, Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty bestowed the reign title Jingde upon Changnan Town. When the first batch of blue-white porcelain emerged from the dragon kiln with a luster described as "as blue as the sky, as clear as a mirror," no one could foresee that this land would become the heart of the world's ceramic civilization. Our tale begins with the kaolin clay beside the ancient kilns of Jingdezhen:
Twelve craftsmanship steps flow through the hands of artisans: "Soil collected in spring, clay refined in summer, 坯 shaped in autumn, kiln fired in winter." Each piece of clay soaks up the essence of the sun and moon over 365 days, and every glaze color holds the breath of 72 types of craftsmen. From the secret-colored porcelain of the Tang Dynasty's Yue Kiln to the sky-blue glaze of the Song Dynasty's Ru Kiln, from the exotic charm of Yuan Dynasty blue-and-white to the imperial elegance of famille rose, ceramics are not just objects but living fossils of civilizational exchanges.

II. Rebirth: The Contemporary Oath of Intangible Cultural Heritage Artisans

In 2015, Chen Xiuyuan, a fifth-generation ceramic master, discovered a poem by a Ming Dynasty kiln worker inscribed on a fragment of his family's ancient sagger: "The 坯 turns the universe in hand; the glaze pours the moon's soul from the heart." This poem, 熏染 by kiln fires, drove him to restart his family's wood-fired kiln, which had lain dormant for three decades.
In an old workshop on Sanlvmiao Ancient Street in Jingdezhen, we have gathered 27 national-level intangible cultural heritage inheritors:

  • Master Li, aged 72, still uses the "hand-rolling method" to test clay viscosity with an error margin of less than 0.1mm.
  • Painter Zhou specializes in the "water-division 皴" technique, creating 58 shades of blue on a 10cm cup wall.
  • The youngest artisan, a post-90s ceramist, has developed new "kiln-transformation glaze" formulas, making traditional colored glazes bloom like starry skies at 1,320°C.

III. Dialogue: Every Tea Ware is a Time Capsule

In Jingde Ceramics Studio's exhibition hall, each piece of tea ware comes with a "Triple Identity Card":

  1. Craftsmanship Card: Specifies clay origin (e.g., Yaoli kaolin/purple gold clay), glaze recipe (e.g., ancient mineral glaze with 7 gemstone components), and firing method (wood-fired/gas-electric kiln).
  2. Story Card: Tells the origin of the shape (e.g., "bound-mouth bowl" inspired by Song Dynasty tea-fighting ware) and the meaning of decorations (e.g., tangled lotus patterns symbolizing integrity).
  3. Inheritance Card: Features the artisan's fingerprint and a handwritten note.

IV. Mission: Let the World Read China through Tea

We reject mass production, adhering to the principle of "One piece, one story; one teapot, one artisan":

  • The "A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains" tea set co-created with the Palace Museum underwent 128 glaze adjustments.
  • The "Flying Apsara Reverse-flow Teapot" for the Dunhuang Academy combines the shape of a pipa-playing apsara with siphon technology.
  • The "24 Solar Terms Tea Set" for young consumers guides usage based on seasonal phenomena.

【Brand Conclusion】
When you hold a Jingde Ceramics Studio tea ware, your fingertips touch not just the smooth porcelain but also:

  • The 烟火气 of 7,000-year-old Hemudu pottery,
  • The 流光韵 of 2,000-year-old Chu-Han lacquerware,
  • The 风雅魂 of 1,000-year-old Tang-Song tea culture.

This is a dialogue across millennia. We aim to be the ferrymen of civilization, turning every cup of tea into a key to unlocking Chinese culture.
